ABS Grade B Shipbuilding Steel Plate, also known as ABS Gr. B marine steel plate or ABS B ship steel sheet, is a kind of ordinary-strength structural steel standardized by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for shipbuilding applications. It is made of hot-rolled or normalized high-strength structural steel, with excellent chemical composition, mechanical properties and impact toughness, which is the core material for building safe and durable marine structures. Different from ABS Grade A steel plate, ABS Grade B is tested for impact toughness at 0°C, making it more suitable for high-stress marine environments that require reliable ABS Grade B shipbuilding steel plate performance.
Our ABS Grade B Shipbuilding Steel Plate is fully compliant with ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) standards and ASTM A131 specifications, with complete certification documents to ensure compliance with international marine industry regulations, providing a reliable "international pass" for marine projects that use ABS Grade B ship steel.
The ABS Grade B Shipbuilding Steel Plate has a minimum yield strength of 235 MPa (34 ksi), tensile strength ranging from 400 to 520 MPa (58-75 ksi), elongation of not less than 22%, and minimum impact energy of 27J at 0°C (adjusted according to thickness), ensuring strong load-bearing capacity and impact resistance in harsh marine conditions for ABS Grade B marine steel plate applications.
With a maximum carbon content of 0.21%, our ABS Grade B Shipbuilding Steel Plate has good weldability, reducing the risk of weld cracking during fabrication; it also has excellent formability, which can be flexibly processed into various structural parts to adapt to the curved surface forming needs of ship hulls using ABS Grade B steel plate.
Through scientific smelting process and optional shot blasting treatment, the surface of our ABS Grade B Shipbuilding Steel Plate is clean and smooth, with strong resistance to marine salt spray corrosion, extending the service life of marine structures using ABS Grade B marine steel plate in harsh marine environments.
We provide a full range of ABS Grade B Shipbuilding Steel Plate specifications to meet diverse project needs, with thickness ranging from 4mm to 260mm, width from 1200mm to 4000mm, and length from 3000mm to 18000mm; we also support customized ABS Grade B steel plate specifications and processing services according to customer requirements.

A:
Yes, all our ABS shipbuilding plates are certified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). We will provide full certification documents and a Material Test Certificate (MTC) to ensure that our ABS steel plate products comply with international maritime industry regulations and meet the acceptance requirements for our customers’ projects.
A:
Yes, we can customise the thickness, width, length and delivery terms of ABS Grade B shipbuilding steel plates to meet customer requirements. We can also provide additional processing services, such as shot blasting, cutting and welding.
A:
No. ABS Grade B only requires impact testing at 0°C. For lower temperatures (–20°C or below), consider ABS Grade D or E.
A:
Yes, ABS Grade B marine steel offers excellent weldability. However, preheating may be required for thicknesses exceeding 50 mm or in low ambient temperatures. Please consult our technical team regarding the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).
A:
Yes. Depending on the thickness (typically 40 mm or more), we can supply ABS shipbuilding steel plates in either normalized (N) or thermomechanically controlled process (TMCP) conditions to improve the grain structure.
A:
The yield strength (≥235 MPa) and tensile strength of ABS Grades A, B, D and E are identical (400–520 MPa).
The key difference lies in their impact temperature:
Grade A at 20°C (room temperature), Grade B at 0°C, Grade D at –20°C and Grade E at –40°C.
A:
We accept small-volume orders, with a minimum order quantity of 20 tons.
A:
Yes, we offer shot blasting to SA2.5 standard and high-quality shop primer coating.
A:
Both grades are ordinary-strength marine steels with identical yield and tensile strengths, but ABS Grade B undergoes impact testing at 0°C, whereas Grade A typically does not require a specific impact test temperature, making Grade B more suitable for colder environments or high-stress zones.
