EN10025-2 is a European standard for hot-rolled structural steels, and S420J0 is a high-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) steel grade with improved mechanical properties compared to standard carbon steels. It is designed for better weldability, formability, and corrosion resistance while maintaining high strength.
| Grade | S420J0 |

| Standard | EN 10025-2: Hot rolled products of structural steels. Part 2: Technicaldelivery conditions for non-alloy structural steels |
| Delivery Conditions | Hot rolled (HR) |
| Approval By Third Party | ABS, DNV, GL, CCS, LR , RINA, KR, TUV, CE |
| Weldability | Excellent weldability, with minimal tendency to form quenched structures or weld cracks. No special preheating or post-heating is required when the thickness is less than 20mm. |
| Machinability | It can be processed with cutting, drilling, punching, and cold bending. |
| Surface Quality | Default surface in hot-rolled condition. Additional treatments such as shot peening and painting can be required upon request. |
| Quality Control | Provide the original material certificate. Non-destructive testing (such as UT ultrasonic testing), Charpy V-notch impact test, and Z-direction property test (Grades Z15/Z25/Z35) can be added as required. |
Features & Benefits:
✔ High Strength-to-Weight Ratio – Suitable for lightweight yet strong structures.
✔ Good Weldability – Preheating may be required for thick sections.
✔ Improved Toughness – Performs well in low-temperature environments (-20°C impact tested).
✔ Corrosion Resistance – Better than standard carbon steels due to alloying elements.
✔ Ease of processing: Good cold formability, weldability, and machinability.
✔ Cost-effectiveness: A good balance between high strength and moderate price.
EN 10025-2 S420J0 is a cost-effective HSLA steel offering high strength, good weldability, and toughness, making it ideal for demanding structural applications.

Processing & Fabrication:
Cutting: Laser, plasma, or oxy-fuel cutting is suitable.
Welding: Compatible with common methods (SMAW, GMAW, SAW). Preheat if thickness >20mm.
Forming: Can be cold-formed but may require annealing for severe bends.
Forms: Plates, sheets, coils.
A:
High-strength low-alloy steel plates offer excellent weldability. As their carbon content is typically low (below 0.2%), they present a lower risk of cracking during welding compared to standard high-strength steel plates and generally do not require complex preheating treatments.
A:
The key advantage of high-strength low-alloy steels is weight reduction. As they offer greater strength, thinner sheets can be used to withstand the same loads, thereby reducing the overall weight of the structure; in the automotive sector, this leads to improved fuel efficiency.
A:
High-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA) is a type of steel in which small amounts of alloying elements (such as niobium, vanadium, titanium or copper) are added to enhance its mechanical properties. Compared to traditional carbon steel, it offers higher yield strength and better corrosion resistance whilst maintaining good weldability and formability.
