Quality Inspection of ABS EH32 Marine Steel Plates
- May 09, 2026
Knowledge
ABS Code: ‘Rules for Materials and Welding’.
Each batch of EH32 steel plates must undergo the following standardised inspections:
Spectroscopic analysis shall be used to verify that element content complies with the code requirements.
Including tests for tensile strength, yield strength and elongation.
Charpy V-notch impact testing conducted at -40°C.
To detect internal laminations and inclusions.
To inspect for surface defects such as cracks, scratches and rust spots.
Approved suppliers shall provide complete certification documentation, including: ABS Factory Approval Certificate, Batch Inspection Report, Material Test Certificate (MTC) and Dimensional Inspection Sheet. All documents must be traceable, with batch numbers corresponding one-to-one with the markings on the steel plates, to facilitate quality verification by the buyer.
Non-conforming EH32 steel plates typically exhibit issues such as failure to meet low-temperature impact performance standards, excessive impurity element content, and poor surface quality. Some substandard products use DH32 to pass themselves off as EH32, but DH32 cannot pass the -40°C impact test. The buyer may verify the authenticity of the material through a third-party testing organisation.
ABS EH32 steel plates should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated warehouse, with measures taken to protect against rain and corrosion. Upon acceptance, the plate markings and certification documents should be verified, and random sampling tests should be conducted. Avoid long-term outdoor storage to prevent seawater corrosion and surface oxidation.
