DNV Grade AH36 high-strength marine steel plates have a yield strength of ≥ 355 MPa and an impact toughness temperature of 0°C. They are suitable for general load-bearing structures subjected to medium-to-low impact loads in marine engineering projects in temperate, subtropical, and tropical waters where temperatures are normal and there is no severe cold. They are not suitable for use in extremely cold or icy waters, or for underwater primary load-bearing structures.
DNV Grade AH32 and AH36 are both DNV (Det Norske Veritas)-certified Grade A high-strength marine structural steel plates; their main difference lies in their strength grades. DNV Grade AH32 shipbuilding steel plates have a minimum yield strength of 315 MPa, while DNV Grade AH36 shipbuilding steel plates have a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa. In comparison, AH36 offers a higher strength margin and is more suitable for the construction of large vessels and critical structural components subjected to high loads.

DNV Grade AH32 shipbuilding steel plates combine high strength, excellent toughness, good weldability, stable corrosion resistance, and cost-effectiveness, making them a widely used material in the offshore engineering sector. This paper analyzes the specific application scenarios of this steel plate in projects such as bulk carriers, container ships, tugboats, and offshore platforms, and discusses its structural adaptability and engineering advantages, thereby providing a reference for material selection and design optimization in such projects.
DNV Grades AH32, DH32, and EH32 all belong to Grade 32 high-strength shipbuilding steel plates (yield strength ≥315 MPa). They differ in mechanical properties, chemical composition, delivery conditions, manufacturing processes, and application scenarios. The key distinction among them is the progressive improvement in low-temperature impact toughness: A → D → E, with impact test temperatures of 0°C → -20°C → -40°C, respectively. As low-temperature toughness improves, so does the cost.
