BV DH32 shipbuilding steel plates have a minimum yield strength of 315 MPa and a tensile strength of 440–590 MPa, enabling them to reliably withstand static and alternating wave loads in cold waters.
Through grain refinement and controlled rolling processes, a dense, uniform ferritic-pearlitic microstructure is achieved, providing excellent structural rigidity and resistance to deformation. This effectively resists structural deformation and fatigue damage caused by the ship’s deadweight, cold-weather storm impacts, and long-distance navigation in cold regions, fully meeting the load-bearing requirements for the main structures of bulk carriers, general cargo ships, and cold-region platforms.
The core technical advantage of BV DH32 shipbuilding steel plates lies in their certified -20°C Charpy impact toughness, which is a key performance indicator distinguishing it from AH32/AH36.
The standard AH series is only suitable for environments above 0°C and is prone to cold-brittle fracture in sub-zero sea conditions. Through a low-carbon, high-purity formulation and grain refinement process, BV DH32 effectively suppresses the low-temperature brittle transition, maintaining full structural toughness under conditions of cold wave erosion and immersion in ice water, thereby ensuring all-weather safe service for structures in temperate waters ranging from -20°C to 0°C.
The carbon equivalent of BV DH32 shipbuilding steel plates is strictly controlled at ≤0.38%, with low sulfur and phosphorus impurity levels, resulting in extremely low susceptibility to cold cracking during welding. It is suitable for mainstream marine welding processes such as SAW, GMAW, and SMAW.
Conventional thicknesses (≤18 mm) require no preheating under normal construction conditions;
Thick plates (>18 mm) or those in cold, humid environments require only low-temperature preheating at 70–90°C, with no need for complex post-weld heat treatment.
Weld joints exhibit a good balance of strength and toughness, with low defect rates and stable forming performance, significantly improving construction efficiency at shipyards in cold regions.
BV DH32 shipbuilding steel plates are produced using vacuum degassing and deep-purification smelting, resulting in extremely low impurity levels and eliminating internal sources of corrosion.
The dense, fine-grained microstructure effectively resists damage from low-temperature seawater immersion, salt spray corrosion, and marine biofouling.
It exhibits excellent fatigue resistance under cyclic cold-wave loads and tidal impacts, effectively delaying crack initiation and propagation.
