Applications of ABS DH36 Shipbuilding Steel Plates – Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering

With a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa, low-temperature toughness at -20°C, and excellent fatigue and corrosion resistance, ABS Grade DH36 shipbuilding steel plates have become a key material in high-end marine engineering sectors such as heavy-duty vessels, offshore wind power and deep-sea drilling platforms, and are widely used in medium-to-high-load marine structures.

I. Civil Ocean-going Vessel Construction

1. Core Load-bearing Structures of the Hull

Applicable areas: Main decks, outer side plating, bottom plating, keels and longitudinal stringers of bulk carriers, container ships and large oil tankers.

Functional requirements: To withstand the hull’s total longitudinal bending stress and wave impact pressure.

Technical Advantages: Can replace lower-strength DH32 steel plates, suitable for heavy-load vessels of 10,000 tonnes and above.

2. Specialised Compartment Structures

Applicable Areas: Oil and water tank bulkheads, pressure-resistant compartments, load-bearing wall panels of superstructures.

Functional Requirements: To withstand seawater pressure and cargo compression, enhancing hull watertightness and structural stability.

II. Offshore Oil and Gas Platform Engineering

1. Fixed Jack-up Platforms

Applicable components: Support columns, connection nodes, load-bearing decks.

Performance requirements: Capable of withstanding the impact of sea winds, waves and ocean currents.

2. Self-elevating Drilling Rigs

Applicable components: Leg reinforcement plates, locking mechanisms, platform base plates.

Performance requirements: Use of thick plates with Z-direction properties to resist laminar tearing.

3. Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) Vessels

Applicable components: Load-bearing hull plates, connecting stiffeners.

Performance requirements: Suitable for deep-sea floating operations.

III. Offshore Renewable Energy and Port Machinery

1. Offshore Wind Power

Applicable components: Wind turbine jackets, tower stiffeners, foundation load-bearing structures.

Performance requirements: Must withstand complex marine climates and possess resistance to typhoons and seawater corrosion.

2. Port Engineering Machinery

Applicable components: Main girders and base load-bearing plates for quay cranes and gantry cranes.

Performance requirements: High-strength properties to meet the demands of high-frequency, heavy-load operations in ports.
