Equivalent Materials for LR Grade B Shipbuilding Steel Plates
- Jul 14, 2026
Knowledge
This is the most direct and most commonly used method of equivalence in the industry. As long as the materials have been certified by the corresponding classification society (factory approval and product certificate), the following materials are fully equivalent in terms of specifications:
| Classification Society Name | Abbreviation | Equivalent Steel Grade |
|---|---|---|
| Lloyd's Register | LR | LR Grade B (LR B) |
| China Classification Society | CCS | CCS Grade B (CCS B) |
| American Bureau of Shipping | ABS | ABS Grade B (ABS B) |
| Det Norske Veritas | DNV | DNV Grade B (NV B) |
| Bureau Veritas | BV | BV Grade B (BV B) |
| Nippon Kaiji Kyokai | NK | NK Grade B (NK B) |
| Korea Register of Shipping | KR | KR Grade B (KR B) |
| RINA (Italian Register of Shipping) | RINA | RINA Grade B (RINA B) |
| Steel Plate Grade | C | Si | Mn | P | S | Cu | Cr | Ni |

Note: When substituting equivalent materials, suppliers must be required to provide factory approval certificates and product inspection certificates from the corresponding classification society. Without classification society certification, the material cannot be used in shipbuilding, even if the material composition is identical.
We can provide dual or multiple classification society certifications upon customer request, fully meeting the ship engineering acceptance standards of various countries and regions.
