Knowledge
LR AH32 is suitable only for marine environments above 0°C; under seasonal low-temperature conditions, it is prone to reduced toughness and the risk of brittle fracture, and thus fails to meet the safety requirements for projects in cold regions.
In contrast, LR DH32 maintains stable low-temperature impact toughness down to -20°C, making it fully suitable for use in seasonal frozen waters.
Although its initial procurement cost is slightly higher than that of AH32, it effectively prevents structural damage, rework, and losses from safety incidents caused by low-temperature brittle fracture, significantly reducing lifecycle maintenance costs and enhancing long-term project safety.
LR EH32 is specifically designed for extreme polar cold environments and features impact toughness at -40°C; however, it involves high production costs and complex construction processes.
For conventional cold-temperature marine projects experiencing only seasonal temperature fluctuations, the ultra-low-temperature performance of EH32 is clearly excessive, resulting in an increase in material and construction costs of approximately 20% to 30%.
The performance specifications of LR DH32 are precisely tailored to the temperature and load requirements of mainstream cold-region offshore projects, ensuring performance without redundancy and cost optimization.
LR DH32 adapts well to cold-region construction environments and does not require the rigorous ultra-low-temperature preheating and post-weld heat treatment processes mandated by EH32.
Its excellent low-temperature welding performance simplifies on-site work processes, shortens construction cycles, and reduces labor, equipment, and time costs associated with cold-region construction.
Compared to EH32, using DH32 can improve cold-region construction efficiency by more than 15%, delivering significant overall economic benefits for large-scale cold-temperature shipbuilding and coastal engineering projects.
LR DH32 holds authoritative certification from the Lloyd’s Register (LR) and is widely recognized globally. It fully meets international qualification requirements for materials used in cold-region offshore engineering projects, ensuring there are no qualification barriers in international bidding and acceptance processes.
Its mature mass production and application system effectively prevents project delays and rework losses caused by non-compliant material performance or missing certifications, ensuring the smooth progress and successful delivery of cold-region offshore engineering projects.
From a full life-cycle perspective, LR DH32 combines reasonable initial procurement costs, high construction efficiency, low annual maintenance expenses, and a long, stable service life.
It addresses the shortcomings of AH32 in low-temperature performance while avoiding the performance redundancy of EH32, achieving an optimal balance between structural safety at low temperatures, service performance, and total cost. As a result, it has become the globally recognized, cost-effective material of choice for cold-climate offshore engineering projects.
