Main Applications of CCS Grade AH36 Shipbuilding Steel Plates in the Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Industries

CCS Grade AH36 shipbuilding plate is a high-strength steel certified by the China Classification Society (CCS) for use in shipbuilding and offshore engineering. It is widely used in hull construction, offshore oil and gas platforms, offshore support facilities and port engineering. Thanks to its excellent strength, toughness and suitability for marine environments, CCS Grade AH36 shipbuilding plate has become one of the key steels used in large and medium-sized offshore engineering projects.

1. Shipbuilding

In the shipbuilding sector, CCS AH36 shipbuilding steel plates are primarily used in the critical load-bearing structures of ocean-going vessels, including the hull keel, decks, side plates, and bow and stern structures, to withstand primary loads and wave impacts.

Applicable vessel types include commercial cargo ships such as bulk carriers, container ships, oil tankers and chemical tankers, as well as ocean-going fishing vessels and engineering vessels.

For oil tankers, which have high requirements for flatness and workability, wide-width, thin-gauge CCS AH36 shipbuilding steel plates are frequently used for cargo holds and auxiliary structures, balancing structural safety with surface flatness.

2. Offshore Engineering

In offshore engineering, CCS AH36 shipbuilding steel plates are utilised for the primary load-bearing structures of offshore oil and gas drilling platforms, production platforms and floating facilities.

Faced with extreme environments such as strong winds, heavy seas and high salt fog, the high strength and fatigue resistance of this steel plate enable it to effectively withstand long-term cyclic loading and seawater corrosion, making it suitable for platform support frames, deck structures and connecting components.

Furthermore, this material is equally suitable for new types of offshore facilities such as offshore wind turbine foundations and floating docks.

3. Port and Coastal Engineering

In port and coastal engineering, CCS AH36 shipbuilding steel plates are used for quay structures, breakwater components and scour protection structures.

Their excellent resistance to seawater corrosion and structural stability enable them to withstand long-term tidal scouring and salt spray erosion, significantly extending the service life of coastal engineering structures.
