What are The Common Delivery Conditions for DNV Grade E Shipbuilding Steel Plates?

DNV Grade E shipbuilding steel plates are fine-grained steels that require extremely high uniformity in internal microstructure. To meet the impact toughness requirements at -40°C, delivery in the hot-rolled (AR) condition is not recommended; instead, the steel should be supplied in the normalized (N), thermomechanically controlled process (TMCP), or quenched and tempered (Q&T) conditions.

DNV Grade E shipbuilding steel plates have extremely high requirements for internal microstructural uniformity, so delivery in the as-rolled (AR) condition is generally not recommended. Common high-quality delivery conditions include:

1. Normalized (N)

This traditional standard process refines the grain structure through recrystallization, ensuring low-temperature toughness at -40°C.

2. Thermomechanically Controlled Process (TMCP)

Achieves high toughness and good weldability through controlled rolling and cooling, making it the preferred process for thick plates.

3. Quenched and Tempered (Q+T)

Primarily suitable for special ultra-thick plates.
