S355K2W is a high-strength, weather-resistant structural steel specified in the European standard EN 10025-5, with the steel grade designation 1.8967. This steel grade combines a yield strength of approximately 355 MPa with good low-temperature impact toughness and weather resistance, and is commonly used in bridges, building steel structures, towers, and structural components subject to long-term exposure to the atmosphere.

6. Delivery Conditions

ConditionDescription
Hot-rolled (+AR)The steel plate is delivered directly in the hot-rolled condition after rolling and is suitable for certain conventional structural applications.
Normalized (+N)The microstructure and properties are more uniform, making it more suitable for structural components with higher requirements for toughness and microstructural stability.


7. Weathering Performance

The alloying element system of S355K2W weathering steel promotes the formation of a relatively dense oxide protective layer on the steel surface. In atmospheric environments characterized by alternating wet and dry conditions, good air circulation, and no excessive concentration of pollutants, this protective layer can reduce the rate of subsequent corrosion.

Actual weathering performance is closely related to humidity, salinity, industrial pollution, wet-dry cycles, drainage conditions, and the presence of long-term water accumulation on the steel surface; therefore, “weathering steel” does not imply that it can be used completely exposed in all environments.


8. Weldability

S355K2W is a weldable structural steel; however, due to its alloying elements and carbon equivalent, specific welding procedures must be determined based on plate thickness, carbon equivalent, ambient temperature, welding method, welding consumables, heat input, preheating temperature, and interpass temperature.

Welding procedure qualification is particularly important for thick plates, low-temperature environments, or highly constrained welded structures.
