Products FAQ

Q71:

How can one verify that a steel plate complies with the ABS Grade EH36 standard?

A:

Every compliant ABS Grade EH36 steel plate must be accompanied by a Material Test Certificate (MTC) bearing the stamp of an ABS surveyor. In addition, the surface of the steel plate should bear a clear stamp indicating ‘ABS EH36’, the furnace number, the batch number and the classification society mark.

Q72:

What is the relationship between EH36 and the ASTM A131 standard?

A:

ASTM A131 is a standard specification for shipbuilding steels. Within this standard, EH36 is a specific steel grade, the technical requirements of which are essentially consistent with the definitions of EH36 established by the major classification societies (such as ABS, CCS, DNV, BV and LR). In actual production, steel mills typically ensure that steel plates comply with both the ASTM A131 standard and the relevant specifications of the classification societies (such as ABS, CCS, DNV, BV and LR).

Q73:

Is ABS EH36 marine steel plate easy to weld?

A:

ABS EH36 marine steel plate has good weldability, but the following points should be noted:

Welding consumables: Low-hydrogen welding consumables must be selected that match the strength and toughness of EH36.

Preheating: Depending on the thickness, appropriate preheating may be required to prevent cold cracks.

Heat input control: Avoid excessive heat input, as this can cause grain coarsening in the heat-affected zone, thereby reducing low-temperature toughness.

Q74:

Can you supply EH36 with Z25 or Z35 performance?

A:

Yes. We supply ABS EH36 marine steel plates with Z15, Z25 and Z35 performance, which are particularly suitable for the legs and heavy-duty joints of offshore jack-up drilling rigs.

Q75:

What is the difference between ABS EH36 and ABS DH36?

A:

The main difference lies in the impact test temperature. ABS DH36 is tested at -20°C, whereas ABS EH36 is tested at -40°C, offering superior performance in colder climates and effectively preventing brittle fracture in extremely cold seawater environments.

Q76:

Do you offer third-party inspection?

A:

Yes, we support third-party inspections carried out by ABS, CCS, DNV, LR or BV to ensure that every sheet of plate meets international maritime standards.

Q77:

Is ABS EH32 marine steel plate easy to weld?

A:

ABS EH32 marine steel plate has good weldability with low carbon equivalent. It is suitable for SAW, GMAW and SMAW processes.

Q78:

What is the equivalent grade of ABS EH32?

A:

The international equivalent grades of ABS EH32 are as follows:

Chinese standard: GB/T 712 EH32

American standard: ASTM A131 EH32

Class society equivalents: CCS EH32, DNV EH32, BV EH32, LR EH32

All grades possess the same chemical and mechanical properties.

Q79:

What are the delivery conditions for ABS Grade EH32 marine steel plates?

A:

This depends on the thickness. Typically, it is supplied in a TMCP or normalised condition to meet the mechanical property requirements.

Q80:

Do you offer Z-direction performance testing (Z15, Z25, Z35)?

A:

Yes, we can supply EH32 steel plates with Z-direction performance testing in accordance with customer requirements.
